Bugis

Bugis by itself is not a bad place to go if you have extra time on your hands. It has many food options (save for hawkers as the nearest hawker is quite some distance away from the train station and shopping mall), shopping and a little bit of culture and history infused around the area.

However, probably the most interesting place around Bugis is Bugis Street, which is basically the most “street-like” shopping and food you will find all around Singapore. If you are looking for quirky t-shirts and souvenirs, chances are you will likely find it around Bugis Street. Given that the stores are all basically run by an individual, you can definitely try your luck by haggling. Do bear in mind that most of the stuff there is probably not ‘branded’ and so do not expect high quality products.

One special mention about Bugis is its food street (not to be confused with Bugis Street food). On the other side of Bugis is a bunch of streets which has restaurants all around, you can actually find really good food (not just your typical mala Chinese type restaurants) like Hong Kong style desserts and other cuisines. These places do open quite late so its possible to have it as a late dinner or supper if you are into it.
