Singapore Skyline and the Merlion

The Singapore skyline is one of the most mesmerizing skylines around the world. Given its status as a financial hub, the skyline is impressive given the amount of skyscrapers that tower over the Singapore river, lighting up the area at night. Given the temperature, you can always have a casual stroll around the river area and take photos of the skyline, although it does look better at night with the lighting.

For more active folks, you can walk around the Singapore river to get different angles of the skyline. There are paths all around the river so it is very accessible to get around there. Just be mindful that these areas are unsheltered so please bring a cap (if sunny) or an umbrella (if rainy).

The Singapore skyline is also home to the merlion, which is on the skyline side (not MBS side). The merlion is the icon of Singapore, which is typically featured in travel sites, magazines and even anime. It is also very accessible so you can visit it anytime of the day, although recommended to visit in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid large crowds (and also getting better lighting and photos in the process).

How do I get there?

Just a short walk away from Raffles Place MRT, just look for directions to One Fullerton and Merlion Park should be right next to it. As traffic can be a bit congested due to it being near to the central business district, I would recommend avoiding peak hour if you don’t like to squeeze on the trains to get there.

Best Ways to get around the Bay Area

To be honest, there is no 1 way of moving around the bay area. Some people choose to walk (do bear in mind the heat and not everywhere is sheltered), some choose to cycle (there are public rental bikes available but please use them and park them in the appropriate places), whereas some people choose to take public transport (which is recommended as it is air-conditioned, convenient and relatively reasonably priced).

If you are ever lost, do look out for signs, or you can ask any local (we are a friendly bunch and do not bite). If not, Google Maps is always your friend 😊
