Marina Bay Sands
Probably one of the most iconic buildings in the world, the Marina Bay Sands hotel building is an architectural marvel. No trip to Singapore will be complete without it. If you want to spend the night in the hotel, be prepared to pay a hefty sum. However, I would recommend forking out the price if (1) you can afford it, (2) you want the view of the skyline from the MBS side or the night view of the gardens by the bay lightup, (3) you will likely spend some time in the shoppes (which is the shopping mall connected to MBS) or the casino and you want the convenience and (4) you will utilize the Skydeck and infinity pool.
To be honest, you will be able to view the entire hotel from multiple points around the Singapore river so if you are already visiting the Merlion, you will be able to snap a good shot of the hotel already.
MBS has food eateries nearby so you don’t have to worry too much about food. However, do bear in mind that F&B at the shoppes tend to be on the pricier side and the nearest hawker center will be a few MRT stations away.
To assist people with planning the trip around MBS, I have broke down a few questions that 1 might ask in relation to the usage of facilities in MBS.
Is it worth the stay?
Personally? If you fit all 3 criterias in the paragraph above – it is a pretty good place to stay at it is central and is easy to get around the town area and gardens by the bay. If not, personally I think you might be able to get a more affordable hotel for your buck.
I really want to use the infinity pool but I do not want to pay the hotel room price? Is there a way?
Unfortunately, it is only restricted for hotel guests. I do not encourage any backdoor approaches to enter the pool.
What about the observation deck? Do I need to stay there as well?
You can buy tickets to the observation deck by visiting here. However, I am not sure if it is worth that price.
Are there any restrictions to enter the casinos?
For Singapore citizens and PR, you have to pay a levy before entering. For foreign guests, there is no restrictions except for age (similar to other casinos overseas).
What other stuff is there to do around MBS
There is the Arts and Science Museum nearby, many luxury shops (do not expect to find brands like Uniqlo, Nike etc here) and cafes and bars. There is also a convention center that is used to host conferences, conventions and even weddings. Otherwise, Bayfront MRT is just below which will give you access to other malls and attractions around the area.
How do I get there?
Besides private transport like taxis, the easiest way to get to MBS is through the MRT (Downtown and Circle Line) to Bayfront MRT. There will be many signs to guide you to where you want to go.
