How to obtain internet in Singapore

In this day and age, people cannot travel without internet - be it the use of Google Maps to obtain directions or to keep themselves entertained back in their accommodations, internet connectivity is of utmost importance to those without data roaming access or are not willing to pay high fees for such roaming access.

The good thing is that once you touched down at Changi Airport (which I assume majority of you guys are), there is free wifi access there provided you accept certain terms and conditions, this would allow you to make any last minute bookings or communicate with anyone during this time.

Alternatively, what I would recommend is to get a portable wifi device at any of the counters in Changi Airport (which I believe is of a reasonable rate) or get a local esim from any of your online retailers or roaming applications. This should give you good connectivity across the island unless you are at the corners of the island.

If you are relying on free wifi for your entire trip, the tricky part is that for most places (save for certain train stations and public places like certain malls or libraries where it indicates Wireless@SG or Wireless@SGx), there is hardly any free wifi that is available when you move from place to place. Certain restaurants and coffee places also offer free wifi so look out for them if you really need to connect to the internet.

However, that being said, if you really need to get from place to place, Singapore is convenient enough to get by without Google maps. People (especially train staff) are usually able to direct you to the right direction for you to get to the many local attractions available so from a purely technical point of view, you might be able to survive without internet.
