This topic will need various posts to go through, so I will have to break it up into parts. However, this part will cover the general topic of entry into Singapore.
For first timers, please first check if you will need a visa to enter into Singapore. You don't want to waste your time travelling to Singapore and find out that you will be denied entry. So best if you settle this even before you book any accommodations or attractions. Next, this will typically entitle you to a short term visit pass, which allows you entry into Singapore to perform social activities, to visit as a tourist, to visit medical professionals and even to purchase products (such as banking / insurance services and more). The short term visit pass should be long enough for you to visit most of Singapore (even the extended portions) and to perform your administrative activities (such as banking and other administrative procedures). However, please be reminded that such visit pass does not entitle you to perform any form any employment activities in Singapore. The government takes an extremely strict stance on this and if you are caught working on a visit pass, you could be fined and barred from Singapore and even imprisoned.
If you want to extend your pass for whatever reason, you would need a local sponsor (a person who is a Singapore citizen or permanent resident) who is a family member and can support your application. For more information, you can look at the Immigration Checkpoint Authority website here.
As I intend to cover further immigration requirements on how to find employment in Singapore, please look out for my further posts on this topic in the future.
