Can I find halal food in Singapore

A friendly guide for our muslim brothers and sisters out there who might be concerned with finding halal food in Singapore. As a muslim-friendly nation, Singapore will not be an issue for muslim travellers looking for halal food.

Some people might be wondering if Singapore is similar to its neighbours like Indonesia and Malaysia when it comes to muslim food. Although not everything in Singapore is muslim-friendly, there are many food outlet and establishments ranging from restaurants to hawker food to cater to our muslim friends.

How the Singapore system works is that you have to look out for a certificate providing it with halal-certified status to ensure that the food is halal and prepared as such. There is a strict system to ensure that such establishments comply with the certification and it is typically easy to spot on the shop-front. In the case of any ambiguity, the service staff or shopkeeper will gladly inform you if the food they prepare is halal-certified. Please be reminded that just because a shop includes a signboard that there is "No Pork, No Lard" does not mean that the food is necessarily halal-certified.

Some of my favourite halal foods include Nasi Lemak, Lontong, Mee Siam, Mee Rubus, Satay, Roti Prata to name a few. In our hawker centers, these foodstalls are typically strategically located such that all the halal food are located nearby so our muslim friends don't need to run around the entire place to hunt for food.
